The The Role of Purchase Intention as a Mediator in the Relationship Between Healthy Lifestyle and Social Media Marketing on the Purchase Decision of Pawon Ibun’s Tempe Broth Products
This study is grounded in the increasing public awareness of healthy lifestyles in the post-pandemic era. On the other hand, social media platforms such as Instagram hold significant potential in influencing consumer behavior toward healthy products. However, the sales of Kaldu Tempe have shown a substantial decline despite its alignment with healthy lifestyle values. This study aims to: (1) identify the consumer characteristics of Kaldu Tempe Pawon Ibun; (2) analyze the relationship between healthy lifestyle and social media marketing on the purchase decision of Kaldu Tempe Pawon Ibun; and (3) examine the mediating role of purchase intention in the relationship between healthy lifestyle and social media marketing on the purchase decision of Kaldu Tempe Pawon Ibun. The research employed a quantitative explanatory approach with a sample size of 100 respondents. Descriptive statistics were used to address the first objective, while Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) using SmartPLS 4 software was utilized to address the second and third objectives. Social media marketing plays a critical role in fostering purchase intention, which in turn affects consumer decision-making, even though it does not have a direct impact on the purchase itself. These findings underscore the crucial role of purchase intention as a bridge between promotional efforts and consumer actions. This study provides strategic implications for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in designing promotional content that aligns with healthy lifestyle values to enhance consumer purchase intention and decisions.

This research paper examines the influence of content marketing, influencers, and social media platforms, particularly TikTok, on consumer purchasing decisions. The study aims to explore the factors that shape consumer behaviour and purchase intentions within the context of digital marketing strategies on platforms like TikTok. The research incorporates three independent variables: influencers (X1), content marketing (X2), and social media (X3), with the dependent variable (Y) being purchase decisions. Data were collected through a questionnaire-based survey of 100 university students in the Tangerang area, using a purposive sampling approach. The data were analysed using multiple linear regression analysis, with assessments of validity, reliability, and classical assumption testing, conducted via SPSS version 26 statistical software. The results confirm that all three independent variables—content marketing, influencers, and social media—have a positive and significant impact on consumer purchasing decisions. Specifically, the t-test results show that the t-value for influencers (X1), which encompasses dimensions such as communication skills, influence, authenticity, and expertise, is 101.690, exceeding the critical t-value of 1.660, thereby affirming its significant influence on purchasing decisions. Similarly, content marketing (X2), measured by dimensions of reliability, disbelief, and persuasion knowledge, recorded a t-value of 95.240, also surpassing the critical t-value. For social media (X3), the t-value was 98.764, again greater than the t-table value, confirming its significant effect on purchase decisions. In hypothesis testing, all alternative hypotheses (Ha1, Ha2, Ha3) were accepted, indicating that influencers, content marketing, and social media significantly influence the purchasing decisions of students in the Tangerang area who use TikTok. The null hypotheses (Ho1, Ho2, Ho3) were accordingly rejected. The study provides empirical evidence of the substantial role digital marketing strategies, particularly on TikTok, play in shaping consumer purchase decisions.

Purpose In recent years, there has been a significant increase in business entities that use social media platforms for business purposes. Thus, this study aims to investigate how Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in a developing country use multiple social media platforms to achieve business objectives and enhance profitability. Moreover, the explosive growth of social media platforms has also generated vast amounts of data, making them a valuable resource for organizations. So, the study also explores the extent to which MSMEs have adopted data collection and analytics methodologies to leverage social media insights for informed decision-making. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research design was employed using an online survey targeting MSME owners and managers across various sectors in Brunei. Data were collected from 93 valid respondents through purposeful and convenience sampling, then analyzed using SPSS with both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The surveys were distributed through direct messages to the official business Instagram and Facebook accounts, and the available WhatsApp numbers of the MSMEs. Findings This study provides a preliminary analysis of the social media practices by MSMEs. Yet, it is successful to reveal that WhatsApp Business, Instagram and Facebook are the most frequently used and profitable platforms among MSMEs. These platforms are primarily used for brand visibility, customer engagement and product marketing. Despite widespread adoption, a majority of MSMEs do not systematically collect or analyze social media data, highlighting a gap in data-driven decision-making. Nevertheless, a growing trend toward basic analytics practices is evident. Research limitations/implications The study faced challenges in collecting survey data from MSMEs in Brunei. The study also does not include a qualitative investigation that could deepen understanding of platform strategies and analytics literacy. Its findings are Brunei-centric, lack longitudinal data and may have limited generalizability, although they offer valuable localized insights. Thus, researchers are keen to undertake more follow-up and relevant research later on by using a qualitative methodology approach. Practical implications The paper provides valuable information for MSME entrepreneurs on selecting and managing multifaceted social media platforms. Moreover, the study underlines the need for improved digital literacy and low-cost analytical tools to support MSMEs in leveraging social media-generated data for effective decision-making and building strategic advantage. Social implications The study reveals that social media use by MSMEs improves not only profitability but also citizens’ quality of life and supports national digital economy system Digital interactions have improved market connectivity, customer engagement and product accessibility while promoting inclusivity among youth, women and rural entrepreneurs. Moreover, advancing digital literacy and data analytics fosters innovation, creativity and self-reliance, strengthening entrepreneurial empowerment and community resilience. Originality/value This study has highlighted and examined multifaceted social media application and data analytics practices in an underexplored ASEAN context. The study contributes original empirical evidence on the strategic integration of social media platforms by MSMEs in Brunei and highlights context-specific digital behaviors and adoption challenges.
