Abstract

The genus Tulipa L. consists of approximately 55 species. A revision of the genus Tulipa has been made based on morphological and cytogenetical characteristics, crossing data and on data of geographical distribution. Principal component and Canonical variate analyses were used to analyse the variation of 34 morphological characters. Crossing experiments and chromosome counts were carried out. The 50 species as included in the study (Figure 1) are classified in two subgenera with five and three section respectively.
