Abstract

This paper describes the Sybase replication server, a log based database replication system that allows fine granularity data replication and continuously propagates update transactions from the primary copy of the data to the replicated copies. It uses a store and forward mechanism to provide fault tolerance in the propagation process. Its open system interface supports data replication among heterogeneous databases. An example was used to illustrate the role of the replication server in a data replication system.
