Abstract

A new technique is described for analysing the surface barrier structure of metals from a study of surface barrier resonance features in low energy electron diffraction. With this technique the origin of the “image-like” barrier on copper (001) is located approximately 1.6 Bohr radii above the topmost layer of copper atoms in the surface.
