Abstract
A detailed description is provided for exploitation of the superposition method in obtaining natural frequencies and mode shapes of rectangular plates resting on elastic edge support. The approach is most general in that both distributed rotational and lateral elastic support can act simultaneously on any desired combination of edges. Prescribed elastic stiffnesses along these edges can be given any desired distributions. The main goal of the paper is to provide the reader with all of the information required to conduct a free vibration analysis of any plate of interest. Readers are referred to earlier publications for tabulated eigenvalues obtained through this method.
