Abstract

L1 0 ordering process for FePt thin films was examined by rapid thermal annealing with various temperatures and annealing times. A volume V of L1 0 ordered grain is calculated from grain diameter D by applying Scherrer's equation to XRD superlattice (00 1) peaks. A coercivity shows a linear increase until V reaches V c = 1200 nm 3 and is ∼11 kOe in V > V c . This behaviour of H c is attributable to the change of domain wall pinning sites from order-disorder phase boundaries in V V c .
