Abstract

This chapter describes the project which is an attempt at manifesting the Studio Apparatus in the form of an installation within the author's office space in the Architecture Building at Newcastle University, UK. The installation offers two separate positions against the framework of the diagram. The first is fixed in the position of the observer, and the second is mobile, inhabiting the space between representational elements. The Teatro Olimpico in the ideal city of Sabbioneta in northern Italy is symbolically located between the duke Vespasiano Gonzaga’s palace and the city’s public spaces, acting as a bridge between the two. The door serves as connection between the inside and outside of the installation in a literal way, as it still functions as a door. It also serves as the connection between two contrasting positions.
