Abstract

The surface structure of (√3×√3)R30° I-Pd (111) has been investigated by normal incidence X-ray standing wave absorption. The measurements show that the site of adsorption is at the three-fold fcc hollow, with a layer spacing of 2.16 Å above the surface. The location of the I atoms at the fcc hollow site is consistent with halogen adatom adsorption on the neighbouring fcc (111) transition metal surfaces.
