Abstract

Vegan consumption attracts more and more adepts which stimulates the academic environmentin its research on the scientific production related to this trend. Although it is an incipient field of research, veganism is a concern related to health, the environment, animal rights and a lifestyle, all currently central issues. In this sense, it aims to gather information about vegan consumption in scientific production. For this, the PRISMA method was applied and a systematic analysis performed with a number of bibliometric indicators, such as: temporal evolution; main areas of knowledge and periodicals; major countries; and key words on vegan consumption. The international database Elsevier's Scopus was used, resulting in 54 articles. Scientific research on vegan consumption grows exponentially from 2009, with the United States being one of the countries that most researches the subject, with 22 articles. In addition, over the years new research has ratified the importance of individuals adhering to a vegan diet, due to health and environmental issues. Future research should be directed to understanding the profile of the vegan consumer, since he is already inserted in this niche market.
