Abstract

To study the additivity of medium effects, the rates of reaction between peroxodisulphate and iodide ions have been measured in several salt – water – organic solvent mixtures. The results are consistent with Symons 's hypothesis of the influence of salts and organic solvents on the equilibrium between bound water, free OH, and lone pair groups. Keywords: medium effects, kinetics, iodide, peroxodisulphate.
