Abstract

This paper presents an approach to project-based software engineering courses. The work load, communications and documentation aspects of such courses are evaluated. Considerations based on experience illustrate the myth of the real-world environment as applied to project-based courses at university. The characteristics of real-world projects are outlined and the conditions underlying these characteristics are stressed. The course description of a real project-based course is given and data on the working environment are presented.
