Abstract

THE SIF OF THE WING CRACK IN THE THEORY OF A COMPRESSION SPLIT Hao Tian-hu Department of Basic Sciences, China Textile University 1882 West Yan-an Road, Shanghai 200051 People's Republic of China In the theory of formation of the main crack in a compressed cracked brittle-elastic material, the wing crack (Fig. 1) plays an important role. In order to determine the length of the wing crack we must compute its SIF. For convenience we replace the tortuous crack with a straight crack subjected to the action of two pairs of concentrated forces T and Q (Fig. 2) .
