Abstract

Manuscript accepted 4 July I994 ‘The publication of the Scope of Professional Practice (UKCC 1992) brought to a close 15 years of frustration for Accident and Emergency nurses.’ These are the opening words of an article on scope and Accident and Emergency (A & E) by Gary Jones (1994). He discusses the training implications of the Scope for the A & E nurse and the requirements of a development programme within A & E nursing. Such a programme should include an understanding of the law and ethics of A 81 E nursing. The purpose of this article is to look at the legal implications which arise from the implementation of the Scope of Professional Practice within the A 81 E department. The figure shows some of the tasks which may become the norm for the A & E nurse.
