Abstract

The four Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, organized an archaeological mission, The Scandinavian Joint Expedition to Sudanese Nubia, which worked four seasons (1961–1964) within the framework of the Nubia Campaign of Unesco, Egypt and the Sudan, the largest archaeological salvage project so far. The background, organization, and work of the Scandinavian mission, one of the biggest of the Nubia Campaign, as well as some of its most interesting results are described in this article.
