Abstract
This article, situated within the context of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, considers some linguistic implications and complications in the implementation of the SADC Protocol on Education and Training. For education to serve as an engine for sustainable development, there is a need to take on board both local African and exoglossic languages.
