Abstract

The rotational diffusion of p-terphenyl and p-quaterphenyl was studied in solution as a function of viscosity (η) and temperature ( T) by time-resolved fluorescence depolarization spectroscopy. At low values of the ratio η/ T good agreement was found with the predictions of hydrodynamic theory with slip boundary conditions, whereas at higher values “subslip” behaviour was observed.
