Abstract

Our increasingly complex world has created the demand for a new hybrid of legal specialist, one versed in the law of tourism, or as it is commonly referred to in the USA, the ‘travel industry’. Alexander Anolik, who is on the Board of Governors of the International Forum of Travel and Tourism Advocates (IFTTA), looks at the law of tourism as a new and emerging field. For many countries, the travel industry is the main source of income. Being a non-depletable asset, many countries have developed their tourism potential for both economic and political purposes. Certainly in the USA, judicial and statutory definitions of the duties owed to travellers and to each other, by travel agents, tour operators, and common carriers (including airlines) continue to come forth daily.
