Abstract

Enrollment In the Pioneer organization opens a new phase in the school-child's education. In this phase the youngsters begin to carry out Pioneer obligations, gain new rights and are gradually inducted into another system of group relationships and forms of activity new to them. For active participation in the Pioneer brigade, squad and detachment, they are required to have not only knowledge of the Pioneer obligations, but also the ability to fulfill them. Without much trouble the children memorize the "Solemn Promise of the Young Pioneer," "The Rules of Young Pioneers," features of the Pioneer organization's history and the meaning of Pioneer symbols, but to comprehend all this is difficult for them. What a Pioneer should be like is a question they answer readily, but cannot define the content of Pioneer work, know little of what can and must be done in the squad and detachment, and still less frequently are they able to do it.
