The Holy Qur’an, as the most precious Islamic divine book, presents the best way of education based on the knowledge of the truth of humanity and their needs. In addition, it is appropriate to discuss the role of behavioural gentleness in the education of people, and in this regard, the Qur’anic verses have been reviewed carefully. Therefore, the aim of this manuscript is to study the Islamic teachings in education with an emphasis on behavioural gentleness.Contribution: If curriculum planners and educators in general pay attention to Qur’anic teachings in education and base their curriculum and educational programs on Qur’anic teachings and according to characteristics and abilities and appropriateness of methods, and if the contents are paid attention to and educational programs are produced based on the will and authority of the educators, we will definitely witness progress and development in educational systems on the one hand and development and progress in all levels of life.

Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework draws on principles of Islamic education and its relevance to sustainable development goals (SDGs), emphasizing character-building aligned with Qur'anic teachings. Literature Review: A comprehensive literature review highlights the significance of TPQ in shaping students' moral character and the necessity of structured curricula to ensure effective learning. Methods: This research employs a qualitative approach to explore the internalization of Islamic education values at TPQ Ar-Ridho Mosque. Data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews with educators and parents, and analysis of institutional documentation. Results: The findings reveal that TPQ Ar-Ridho plays a crucial role in character formation by implementing a structured curriculum grounded in Qur'anic values. However, challenges such as limited family involvement and inadequate infrastructure impede optimal educational outcomes. The study identifies that overcoming these challenges requires developing a curriculum tailored to Qur'anic educational standards and fostering active parental engagement. Collaboration among administrators, teachers, students, and parents, combined with regular evaluations, is essential to enhance the quality of education. These efforts align with the SDGs, particularly in promoting inclusive and equitable quality education. Implications: The implications of this research underscore the necessity of strengthening non-formal education systems to ensure moral and character development in young learners. It advocates for policies and practices that support TPQ's infrastructure and family participation, ensuring these institutions serve as effective agents of moral education. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in integrating the concept of Qur'anic education with SDG principles to propose a sustainable model for TPQ development.

  • Bahramaddin Mohaqqeq

The control of sexual instincts constitutes one of the most critical educational concerns in Islamic societies, receiving particular emphasis in the Holy Qur’an. In contemporary contexts, the inability to effectively manage these instincts, along with the shortcomings of some approaches to this issue, poses significant social and ethical challenges. This study aims to investigate the educational factors influencing the control of sexual instincts from a Qur’anic perspective and to propose practical solutions grounded in Qur’anic teachings. Key factors examined include adherence to hijab and Islamic dress codes, avoidance of unnecessary interaction between men and women, observance of proper etiquette in seeking permission, prohibition of provocative behavior, facilitation of marriage, encouragement of simplicity in lifestyle, avoidance of friendships with the opposite sex, prohibition of actions leading to adultery, control of the gaze, restriction of unnecessary outings, and monitoring of women’s and girls’ social conduct. Analysis of these teachings reveals that the Qur’an provides pragmatic and effective guidance for establishing sound foundations to regulate sexual and social instincts at both the individual and societal levels. This research employs a descriptive-analytical methodology, grounded in library research.

Islamic Education in Contemporary Africa
  • Jan 1, 2020
  • Émilie Roy

Islamic education in contemporary Africa takes two main forms: non-formal Qur’anic education and formal Islamic education. On the one hand, Qur’anic education refers here to the various forms of non-formal education that are essentially aimed at learning the Qur’an and exist since the Islamization of the region. On the other hand, Islamic teaching refers here to the formal schools, often called in non-Arabic-speaking countries madrasa or by its French deformation medersa, divided into age classes and teaching subjects, which appeared in West and Central Africa from the end of the 1940s onwards. The latter provide an education in Islamic sciences taught in Arabic. The two forms of education are therefore aimed at the religious education of the child but in a very different way: through the memorization of the sacred text for the Qur’anic education, and via the mastery of Islamic sciences and Arabic for Islamic education. Within these two categories, variations also exist. This chapter therefore has a threefold objective in understanding the complexity of what Qur’anic and Islamic education offer in contemporary Africa. First, this chapter classifies and defines the academic objectives of the various types of education in offer. Secondly, this chapter clarifies, through a certain number of specific cases, the institutional and legal framework within which these schools are inserted or excluded. Thirdly, the chapter discusses the outcomes of such an education in terms of diplomas, their recognition by the various nation-states, and the employment opportunities of graduates from Qur’anic and Islamic schools.

The Holy Qur’an is the most important factor shaping the development of the Islamic culture and civilization. It can be claimed that all attempts in the field of Islamic thought have been shaped on the basis of the Qur’anic literature, jurisprudence, ilm al-usul, theology, philosophy and gnosis. For instance philosophy, which found its way into the Muslim world from Greece, developed under the influence of Qur’anic teachings by Islamic philosophers and formed a new Islamic identity. Muslim philosophers adapted ideas and philosophical doctrines from the teachings of the Qur’an. They also used the Qur’anic verses in order to conceptualize and make new theories. They used the logic of the Qur’an for presenting philosophical arguments based on the analyses of this work. Among the Islamic philosophers, the contributions of Kindi, Suhrawardi, Avicenna, and Mulla Sadra were most significant.

The Influence of Qur’anic Story-Based Islamic Counseling on Increasing Adolescent Resilience
  • Nov 30, 2024
  • Journal on Islamic Studies
  • Azella Ghaitsa + 1 more

This research explores the influence of Qur’anic story-based Islamic counseling on increasing adolescent resilience. The study was motivated by the growing psychological challenges faced by adolescents today, including stress, social pressure, and identity crises, which call for culturally and spiritually grounded interventions. Theoretically, the research integrates modern resilience theory (as conceptualized by Masten and Rutter) with Islamic counseling principles rooted in the Qur’an. It emphasizes that Qur’anic stories such as those of Prophet Yusuf, Ayyub, and Musa provide rich models of patience, perseverance, and faith that can shape adaptive coping mechanisms. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving adolescent participants who were divided into experimental and control groups. The intervention consisted of a series of Islamic counseling sessions using selected Qur’anic stories as the central theme. Data were collected using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) through pre-test and post-test evaluations. Statistical analysis revealed a significant increase in resilience scores among participants who received the Qur’anic story-based counseling compared to those who did not. Improvements were particularly evident in emotional regulation, optimism, and spiritual coping, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating Qur’anic narratives into counseling practice. The findings suggest that Qur’anic story-based Islamic counseling provides a comprehensive spiritual-psychological approach to promoting adolescent mental well-being. The study contributes theoretically by bridging Qur’anic wisdom with modern psychological frameworks, and practically by offering a replicable model for Islamic counselors, schools, and community institutions. In conclusion, Qur’anic story-based counseling is an effective method to foster resilience, faith, and emotional strength among adolescents, highlighting the timeless relevance of Qur’anic teachings in addressing contemporary psychological challenges.

The education of children in an Islamic family based on the Holy Qur’an
  • Apr 17, 2023
  • HTS Teologiese Studies / Theological Studies
  • Sulieman Ibraheem Shelash Al-Hawary + 6 more

Education has been acknowledged as the key factor contributing to personality development and identity formation. To ensure appropriate education, it is thus of utmost importance to reflect on the power of the educational content. As a result, respecting Islamic values from a major authentic source, like the Holy Qur’an, paves the ground to fulfil this goal. On the contrary, the first and foremost educators to convey these values are the family, because each person mainly spends the time of one’s education in this small, primary social institution. Above and beyond, the building block of a society and the starting point of a culture, a civilisation and human history is the family. As a noble book of guidance for the human beings, the Holy Qur’an has accordingly shed light on the role of the family. Against this background, this study, adopting a descriptive analytical approach, aimed to investigate the Islamic family from the perspective of the Holy Qur’an with an emphasis on the education of children. Accordingly, the Holy Qur’an reveals that the main purposes of creating a family are inner peace, generational survival and expansion of the faith and monotheism. A healthy family environment can thus have a profound impact on cultivating moral character and virtues. In view of the Holy Qur’an, the family is the first place to seek relief and perform the acts of worship. No divine religions have also given as much value to the family as Islam, which implies its comprehensiveness. Despite much attention to the family in most societies, it receives special importance in the Qur’anic teachings. This article is a review study that dealt with Qur’anic concepts related to education in the family. Therefore, after categorising different Qur’anic verses, analyses have been presented in each category.Contribution: Islam has set many specific programmes and educational instructions from childbirth and then delegated their implementation to the family. Accordingly, this noble religion offers many guidelines for picking a perfect name, breastfeeding and weaning, loving, observing justice and fulfilling promises in relation to children.

Religious Institutions and Educational Policies in Combating Violence Against Women: The Case of Türkiye
  • Dec 14, 2025
  • Religions
  • Hüseyin Okur + 2 more

Violence against women remains one of the most persistent social problems in Türkiye, often reinforced by patriarchal interpretations of religion and cultural traditions. This study investigates the role of religious institutions and values-based education in preventing such violence by analyzing national curricula, mosque sermons, policy documents, and reports of the Presidency of Religious Affairs. Using a qualitative design based on document analysis and literature review, it examines how religious education reflects or omits gender-related themes and how institutional practices shape public awareness. The findings reveal that while formal and non-formal types of religious education promote moral values such as compassion, justice, and respect, they rarely address gender-based violence explicitly. Religious discourse tends to emphasize general moral development rather than specific strategies for preventing violence against women. The study concludes that integrating gender-sensitive content into religious curricula, promoting authentic Qur’anic teachings on equality and mercy, and providing professional training for religious personnel are essential to transforming societal attitudes. Strengthening cooperation between educational institutions, religious authorities, and policymakers will ensure that religion functions as a constructive moral resource rather than a tool for legitimizing inequality.

Islamic teachings and religious brotherhood in the Islamic society
  • Apr 17, 2023

  • M Jamil + 5 more

The Holy Qur’an relates believers’ pure emotions to brotherhood. From the perspective of Islam, it has been also affirmed that two people have the same thoughts and opinions in one centre point of love in brotherhood, so fraternal feelings are not merely limited to kinship and consanguinity. In this line, the Holy Qur’an states that we have come to make you brothers with each other; not a brotherhood from parents, but an Islamic one, which is highly appreciated in the Islamic society. In addition, a believing brother can never be filled when his fellow believer is hungry, and he cannot be clothed while the other is with nothing on. Islam further considers all Muslims as one family and calls everyone brothers and sisters or siblings. The true Muslims of any race and tribe as well as any language and age thus have a deep sense of brotherhood with each other, even if one lives in the Eastern parts of the world and the other in the West. In sum, this article aimed to investigate the role of religious teachings in strengthening believers’ brotherhood in the Islamic society. For this purpose, firstly, the definition of religious brotherhood was provided; secondly, religious brotherhood has been described based on the Holy Qur’an.Contribution: This article helped gain a new insight into the role of Islamic teachings in strengthening religious brotherhood in the Islamic society. Besides, the indicators of religious brotherhood were extracted and then enlightened according to the Ayat (viz. verses) from the Holy Qur’an.

  • Hafiz Salmanul Farizy

The Holy Qur'an has played a significant role in shaping human society. In a time when ignorance and superstitions prevailed, the Qur'an emerged as a beacon of knowledge, culture, and dignity. Through the teachings of the Messenger of Allah, spirituality, education, and literacy reached new heights. The depth and sophistication of the Qur'anic teachings have the ability to impress any intellect. Revealed in a society plagued by injustice, the Qur'an, as the word of the Lord of the Universe, transformed a society living in ignorance into a model for the world,. The Prophet used the Qur'an to guide people towards virtue. Historical accounts demonstrate that the Qur'an emphasizes the importance of considering the thoughts and feelings of others when engaging in preaching and outreach activities. For instance, the speech delivered by the Muslim leader Ja'far bin Abitwalib in the presence of Quraysh leaders to secure the release of Muslims who had migrated to Ethiopia accurately reflects the moral and human transformations brought about by the Prophet (PBUH) in Arabia. According to the perspective presented in the Qur'an, the fundamental worldview of humanity was cantered on 'Tawhid'. All genuine religious doctrines share commonalities. Minor variations may exist in the specifics of traditions and practices. Religions were established by imparting the essence of God, such as duality, trinity, and plurality. One of the objectives of the Qur'an is to structure human existence on a foundation of ethics, fostering harmony between human life and other forms of life.

Islam is a religion that brings a message of guidance, mercy, and justice for all of humanity. The Holy Qur'an describes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a “Mercy to all the worlds” (Rahmatul-lil-'Alameen), which clearly indicates that his prophethood was not confined to any specific nation or religious group but was universal in nature.A study of the Prophet’s ﷺ life reveals that he demonstrated the highest standards of character, wisdom, tolerance, and justice in his interactions with non-Muslims. These dealings were grounded in the teachings of the Qur'an, which emphasize human dignity, peaceful coexistence, and a wise, compassionate approach to inviting others to the truth. The Qur'an, at various instances, outlines principles for interacting with non-Muslims principles that include gentleness, fairness, good conduct, and the safeguarding of the dignity of believers. Acting upon these principles, the Prophet ﷺ established relationships with people of different communities, ethnicities, and religious beliefs. Whether in day-to-day social and commercial interactions, in formal treaties and agreements, or in his approach to da'wah (inviting to Islam), the Prophet ﷺ presented a model of balanced, noble character, always in accordance with Qur'anic guidance. This research study aims to highlight the various aspects of the Prophet’s ﷺ interactions with non-Muslims in light of the Qur'anic teachings. The objective is to demonstrate that Islam is founded not only on good treatment of its followers but also on principles of justice, goodwill, and respect for others. In today's complex global and local contexts, this study seeks to draw guidance from the Seerah (biography) of the Prophet ﷺ to promote interfaith harmony and universal human values
