The Role of Student College in Moderating Religious Science in the Digital Era
Background: In the digital era, the rapid spread of religious content through online platforms presents both opportunities and challenges for maintaining religious harmony. The need for moderate, inclusive, and contextual religious understanding has become increasingly urgent, especially among younger generations. Objective: This study aims to explore the role of university students in moderating religious knowledge in the digital era. Method: This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data were collected from various written sources such as books, scientific journals, articles, and relevant online sources. Data were analyzed using the content analysis method, which included data reduction, data presentation, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. Result: The results showed that students play a strategic role in moderating religious knowledge through social media engagement, dissemination of positive and educational religious content, formation of online interfaith communities, and collaboration with religious leaders and academics to promote religious moderation. Conclusion: University students have significant potential as agents of religious moderation in the digital era, using their digital literacy and social influence to counteract radical narratives and foster inclusive dialogue. Contribution: This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the proactive role of the younger generation, particularly university students, in maintaining religious harmony and promoting moderate religious discourse in the digital landscape.

Religious moderation is an important concept in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), especially in the digital era that brings challenges such as the spread of extreme ideologies through the internet and the low digital literacy of students. This study aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities of strengthening religious moderation through the PAI curriculum and offer technology-based strategies. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a literature review. Data were obtained from various literatures, such as scientific journals, books, and policy documents, which were analyzed using the content analysis method. The results showed that the main challenges include lack of digital literacy, resistance to change, and limited supporting resources. On the other hand, opportunities include the utilization of digital technologies such as online learning platforms, social media, and technology-based educational content to convey moderation values in an attractive manner. Recommended strategies include the integration of moderation values in the curriculum, strengthening teacher competencies through digital training, and collaboration with various stakeholders. This research makes a novel contribution by integrating the challenges and opportunities of the digital era into the approach of strengthening religious moderation. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for policymakers in creating a more adaptive and relevant PAI curriculum in the digital era.

Social media has emerged as the leading force in the communication behaviors of University Students in China. The high use of social media has influenced students’ online engagement, how they learn, and communicate. Therefore, the study explores the influence of social media on Chinese University Students' communication skills in digital information environment. The study targeted 600 University Students from different universities in Shanghai and Chongqing using convenience sampling technique. Structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used in AMOS software to analyze the data. All hypotheses were confirmed by the findings. Digital literacy, social cognitive learning and communication skills were greatly influenced by social media usage and engagement types. Digital literacy and social cognitive learning were also found to have a major role in enhancing communication skills. The study also reveals that digital literacy and social cognitive learning positively mediates the relationship between frequency of social media usage and social media engagement type and communication skills. The findings highlight the importance of social media to digital literacy and social cognitive learning as the primary means in which communication skills can be improved. Educational institutions and policy makers should focus on enhancing students’ digital literacy and communication skills in the context of social media usage and engagement

Background: In the digital era, online platforms influence religious discourse, making it crucial to integrate digital literacy into Islamic education to promote moderation and counter radical content, especially in diverse societies like Indonesia. Objective: This study aims to explore the role of technological advancements as a strategic approach to instilling moderate Islam in a diverse society through digital literacy-based Islamic education. Method: This research employs a literature study approach conducted in 2023. Data sources include both primary and secondary materials, collected through documentation and triangulation. Data analysis follows the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Result: Fostering a moderate society requires promoting religious moderation through digital literacy, particularly for individuals unfamiliar with social media. Social media serves as an educational platform to enhance religious harmony by disseminating content that supports tolerance and coexistence. Conclusion: Moderate Islam emphasizes the importance of tolerance in maintaining religious harmony in everyday life. Digital literacy plays a crucial role in spreading religious moderation and fostering a balanced perspective in a diverse society. Contribution: This research contributes to the understanding of how digital literacy supports religious moderation and provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and religious leaders in utilizing technology for promoting religious harmony.

Religious moderation is an essential element in maintaining harmony within communities, particularly in the challenging era of digital transformation. This study aims to analyze the role of religious moderation as a strategy to strengthen faith and promote the economic development of communities amidst technological advancements. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research collects data through several methods, including literature reviews of relevant sources, in-depth interviews with religious leaders and economic practitioners, and direct observation of activities grounded in religious values in digital spaces. The data is analyzed by linking empirical findings to the theories of religious moderation and Islamic economics while ensuring the validity of the results through data triangulation. The study reveals that strengthening faith can be achieved through the enhancement of religious moderation, supported by digital literacy, interinstitutional collaboration, and the utilization of technology for Sharia-based economic activities. The integration of religious moderation and digital innovation emerges as a strategic solution to address the spiritual and economic challenges faced by contemporary communities. Religious moderation is a concept that prioritizes balance in carrying out religious beliefs in society. Today, technological and industrial developments have created a new landscape in social interaction, which affects the religious diversity of society. Information technology, especially social media, allows individuals to disseminate religious views easily, both moderate and extreme. However, this development also poses challenges, especially in maintaining the values of tolerance and harmony between religious communities. This article explores the importance of religious moderation in a multicultural society and the impact of technological and industrial developments on people's religious practices. With a qualitative approach, this study examines the main issues that affect the implementation of religious moderation in the digital and industrial era. The results of this research are expected to provide insight for policymakers, religious leaders, and the wider community in realizing a harmonious life. The implication of this research is to enrich interdisciplinary studies between the study of religion, sociology, and technology. The concept of religious moderation raised in the context of multicultural society and technological advances contributes to a new understanding of the dynamics of religion in the digital era, especially in analyzing changes in interaction patterns, the spread of religious values, and the challenges of digital radicalism. In addition, it is also a strengthening of the values of religious moderation that can be an important foundation in creating social harmony in the midst of (SARA). This research is motivated by the problem of the Development of digital technology that has changed the way humans interact, communicate, and obtain information, including in the field of Islamic da'wah. The findings of Generation Z's problems as a digital native generation, namely: 1. Facing significant challenges in the form of massive information flows, hoaxes, 2. Harmful content from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) that is contagious for the character formation of Gen Z, 3. Degradation of moral values ??, such as violence and intimacy, in the digital space. Therefore, da'wah in the digital era not only serves as a medium for conveying religious messages but also as a means of fostering digital literacy grounded in the character of Mahmudah Islam (charisma). This study aims to analyze the role of digital da'wah in building digital literacy oriented towards the formation of Mahmudah Islamic character in Generation Z. The research method used is a qualitative approach with literature studies on scientific sources, journals, and relevant works such as the book on the transformation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the digital era, theory, practice and challenges (QRISET, 2025). The results of the study show that effective digital preaching can increase critical awareness, media ethics, and internalisation of noble moral values ??such as honesty, responsibility, manners, and religious moderation. Thus, da'wah at your fingertips becomes a strategic instrument in shaping a digitally savvy Generation Z with a compassionate Islamic character.

Social communication has changed entirely because of the advancement of digital technology, especially in the context of religious life. With an emphasis on initiatives to foster peaceful discourse in the digital age, this study explores social communication from the perspectives of religious moderation and science. Using a literature review approach, this study examined scholarly works, research reports, and current scientific sources on social communication tactics, digital literacy, and religious moderation. The results show that religiously moderated communication can be a useful tool for reducing polarization, lowering the risk of online extremism, and promoting tolerance and respect for diversity. From a scientific standpoint, digital literacy plays a vital role in strengthening the public's critical ability toward the flow of information, allowing them to filter extremist propaganda, hate speech, and hoaxes. Additionally, communication tactics that combine scientific methods with religious principles can make messages more inclusive and logical, while also enhancing their validity. To create a healthy, moderate, and long-lasting social communication ecosystem, this study also highlights the significance of multi-stakeholder collaboration among religious leaders, academics, educators, digital media managers, and the government. Therefore, this study claims that integrating scientific and religious moderation is essential for fostering peaceful socio-religious discourse in the digital age.

Generation Z is a group of individuals who grew up in the digital era. Even though digital technology has provided great benefits, there are concerns about moral degradation in this generation. This article discusses efforts to strengthen religious literacy as a step to overcome moral degradation among Generation Z in the digital era. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with a library method. The results of this research illustrate how the digital era plays an important role today. The tendency of Generation Z, digital natives, to have easy access to various digital content, both positive and negative, has influenced their understanding of moral values. This generation’s exposure to information that is not always in accordance with religious values can cause negative behavioral changes. To overcome this problem, strengthening religious literacy is important in reducing the occurrence of moral degradation in Generation Z. This article also highlights the important role of schools, families, and religious leaders in supporting the strengthening of religious literacy through religious moderation, character education, and the use of digital literacy. With this effort, it is hoped that Generation Z can strengthen their understanding of religious values, strengthen their morals, and become more responsible individuals in facing the challenges of the digital era. Strengthening religious literacy is the basis for forming a generation with moral integrity amidst rapid technological change. In the digital age, social media has become a powerful instrument in shaping public opinion, including religious perspectives among college students. The proliferation of religious content across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook presents both opportunities and challenges for fostering religious moderation. This study aims to examine how social media influences students’ attitudes toward religious moderation, with a particular focus on core values such as justice ('adl), balance (tawazun), and tolerance (tasamuh). The research adopts a qualitative literature review method, analyzing scholarly articles, books, and official publications published within the last five years that discuss the relationship between social media, youth behavior, and religious moderation. The findings indicate that social media plays a dual role. On one hand, it serves as a platform for promoting inclusive and moderate religious messages, often through visually engaging and relatable content. On the other hand, the same platforms may also disseminate radical ideologies, hate speech, and intolerant narratives, particularly when users lack digital literacy and critical thinking skills. The study highlights the importance of equipping students with the ability to critically evaluate religious content on social media and to distinguish between authentic moderation messages and manipulative, extremist discourse. In conclusion, this study underscores the necessity of integrating religious moderation into digital literacy education within higher education institutions. Collaborative efforts between educators, religious leaders, and content creators are essential in ensuring that digital spaces are dominated by constructive and peaceful religious narratives. The role of students as digital natives and future agents of change makes their involvement in this discourse both timely and essential.

This research aims to analyze teachers' strategies in strengthening the values of religious moderation in PAI learning through the use of digital media, as well as to identify the challenges and their impacts on students' religious attitudes. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include observing teaching and learning activities, conducting in-depth interviews with fifth and sixth-grade teachers and students, and documenting teaching materials and digital learning media. Data analysis is conducted descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The research results show that PAI teachers at MI Fattahul Huda have implemented various digital strategies to strengthen religious moderation, including thematic YouTube videos, interactive quizzes using Quizizz and Kahoot!, student digital projects on tolerance themes, the development of digital teaching materials, and practices of digital religious literacy. Teachers also use moments of religious and national holidays as a means to strengthen peaceful and inclusive Islamic values. These strategies have proven to enhance students' active participation, reinforce the understanding of tolerance values, and cultivate a critical attitude towards religious content on social media. Thus, digital media can serve as an effective tool for instilling values of religious moderation in a contextual and in-depth manner from an early age.

Religious literacy is a crucial competency for individuals in the twenty-first century, particularly in responding to the rapid development of digital technology that significantly influences religious understanding, attitudes, and practices. Nevertheless, Indonesia continues to face challenges related to low levels of literacy, including religious literacy and digital literacy among students. This study aims to examine and analyze the role of teachers in cultivating digital religious literacy among students in the twenty-first century so that they are able to engage with digital religious information in a critical, ethical, and responsible manner. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by analyzing various academic sources, including reputable journal articles, scholarly books, official regulations, trusted websites, and other relevant literature related to religious literacy, digital literacy, and the role of teachers in education. The findings indicate that teachers play a strategic role in developing digital religious literacy through curriculum integration, the application of critical digital pedagogy, modeling ethical behavior in digital media use, and guiding students in evaluating the credibility of religious information in digital spaces. Furthermore, teachers contribute to fostering students’ reflective abilities, religious moderation, and tolerance within digital religious discourse. The implications of this study highlight the importance of strengthening teachers’ digital and religious competencies through continuous professional development to address the challenges of digital religious literacy in the digital era.

This research is motivated by the rapid development and advancement of technology, information, and communication, which have had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including education. Strengthening religious moderation through digital literacy captures the potential of technological developments that are more interactive and structured in relation to religious moderation. This approach is expected to allow users to more easily access religious moderation assessment results and measure students' moderate attitudes. The objective of this study is to analyze the needs for developing a mobile application design aimed at strengthening religious moderation through digital literacy in West Java. The research locations include MAN 5 Bogor Regency, MAN 4 Sukabumi Regency, MAN 1 Sumedang Regency, and MAN 1 Bekasi City. This study serves as the initial stage in the plan to develop a mobile application design for strengthening religious moderation through digital literacy in West Java. The research design employs a naturalistic qualitative approach. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted using data reduction, data presentation, and verification techniques. The needs analysis results indicate that the most essential features for this application include the Digital Literacy Module, Interactive and Practical Materials, Discussion Forum, Online Counseling, and Religious Moderation Assessment. These features are designed to assist users, particularly madrasah students, in understanding the concept of religious moderation through engaging, interactive, and easy-to-understand content. Additionally, the credibility of the content and the security of user data are also key priorities in the development of this application. By addressing these needs, the application will serve as an effective tool for disseminating the values of religious moderation, enhancing digital literacy among the younger generation, and preventing the spread of radical and extremist ideologies. This application is expected to educate and shape a generation that is moderate, inclusive, and respectful of religious diversity in society.

Objective: This study examines strategies for enhancing the culture of effective Internet and social media usage, particularly in mitigating the negative impacts of online information on young people's consciousness and lifestyles. Method: A qualitative approach is employed, utilizing document analysis and case studies to assess digital literacy programs, regulatory measures, and behavioral patterns associated with social media engagement. Results: Findings indicate that while internet accessibility has significantly improved, the lack of digital awareness exposes users, especially youth, to misinformation, cyber threats, and manipulative content. Effective interventions, including media literacy education, legal frameworks, and ethical guidelines, are crucial in fostering responsible digital engagement. Novelty: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the socio-cultural and legal dimensions of internet usage, emphasizing the role of digital literacy in countering information attacks. By integrating policy recommendations and educational strategies, the research contributes to the broader discourse on digital ethics and media responsibility in the digital era.

Researchers investigate the relationship between social media activities and civic involvement in today's digital environment by using mediation-moderation analytical approaches. Today's social media platforms Facebook Twitter and Instagram deliver transformative communication tools that support civic participation by empowering voting and supporting volunteering and advocacy endeavors. Users connect emotionally on social media which translates into civic participation through Online Political Efficacy as the mediating factor. Digital literacy functions as a tuning element that helps users improve their online information assessment and navigation skills thus, they gain better results from social media engagement in civic activities. Study authors bridge existing research gaps through their consolidated model which analyzes Online Political Efficacy together with digital literacy. This study analyzed the relationship between social media usage patterns and civic engagement levels using responses from 200 university student participants and active social media users through dedicated questionnaires. Among the research findings are sizeable positive correlations establishing Online Political Efficacy and digital literacy as fundamental influences. Online Political Efficacy increases social media usage's relationship to civic participation according to mediation results and digital literacy stands out as a primary factor according to moderation results. The study presents real-world advice designed to improve civic engagement through investments in digital literacy education and emotionally compelling content creation for policymakers. Educators join forces with social media platforms to put this guidance into action. The research extends knowledge about social media through its inspection of societal participation barriers such as misinformation and digital inequality.

This study investigates the relationship between social media engagement and the formation of national identity among university students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), with a specific focus on the student population. Through an exploration of the extent of social media use, underlying motivations, and their impact on various dimensions of national identity, this research provides valuable insights into the perceptions and sense of belonging of young individuals in the digital era. We conducted a descriptive and analytical survey, administering a questionnaire to a sample of 386 KSA university students to ensure the generalizability of the findings within the student population. The study reveals a noteworthy level of social media engagement among KSA university students, driven by diverse motives encompassing cognitive, social, recreational, and educational aspects. Furthermore, it highlights the positive influence of social media on the students' national identity, with statistically significant correlations observed across cultural, emotional, social, and affiliative dimensions. The findings indicate that KSA university students exhibit a sense of pride in Saudi history and traditions, demonstrate respect for national symbols, and possess a stronger sense of national affiliation, potentially influenced by their online engagement. Based on these findings, the study recommends the strategic utilization of social media platforms to enhance support among KSA university students and Saudi youth in general, particularly for matters pertaining to national issues. By actively promoting national values, preserving cultural heritage, and cultivating a sense of belonging through social media, institutions can effectively strengthen the national identity of the younger generation.
