Despite widespread attention on the significance of green supply chain integration (GSCI), there is still limited research on how GSCI can improve firms’ green innovation performance. From the perspective of the natural resource-based view and dynamic capability theory, based on the theoretical logic of “resource-capability-performance”, this study aims to explore the relationship between GSCI and firms’ green innovation performance and its intrinsic mechanism. In order to test the research model, this study collected survey data from 405 Chinese manufacturing firms and tested them by using hierarchical regression and bootstrap analysis. The results show that all three dimensions of GSCI, namely, green internal integration, green supplier integration, and green customer integration, have positive effects on supply chain agility. In addition, supply chain agility has a significant positive impact on green product and process innovation. This study also finds that supply chain agility plays a partially mediating role between all three dimensions of GSCI and green product and process innovation; that is, GSCI can further promote firms’ green innovation performance by improving supply chain agility. The results of this study not only enrich the theoretical research on the driving factors of firms’ green innovation but also provide policy implications for manufacturing firms and government policy-makers regarding the implementation and promotion of green innovation practices.

PurposeThe COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, anti-globalization and the digital economy have led to accelerated changes in the market, forcing companies to use big data to achieve precise and agile product or service delivery, thereby improving performance. Existing research has not yet explored the mechanisms for data-driven supply chain agility and supply chain performance. Based on dynamic capacity theory and organizational information processing theory, this paper constructs a conceptual model to investigate how big data analytics can facilitate the implementation of high-level supply chain agility and performance through customer integration, internal integration and collaborative knowledge creation.Design/methodology/approachWe collected a sample of the Chinese food industry and conducted an empirical study using partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA).FindingsThe results show that big data analytics has an impact on supply chain agility through three paths. Moreover, big data analytics capability and supply chain agility are considered dynamic capabilities and the effect of configuration under different conditions is empirically tested. Four solutions to improve the performance of the supply chain are obtained.Practical implicationsThis research sheds light on the implementation process of big data-driven supply chain performance, which is of good theoretical and practical value for expanding the theory of organizational information processing and helping enterprises achieve high-level agile supply and performance.Originality/valueWe provide a new perspective on supply chain agility by exploring the antecedents of supply chain agility and its impact on supply chain performance from the perspective of information processing and dynamic capabilities. Existing studies have not focused on the role of big data analytic capabilities in improving supply chain agility. The purpose of this study is to attempt to establish a clear relationship between the three mediating paths (customer integration, internal integration and collaborative knowledge creation) between big data analytics capabilities and supply chain agility. In addition, we use the empirical methods of PLS-SEM and fsQCA to better substantiate the conclusions.

Oil and gas (O&G) supply chain management (SCM) is complex because it deals with different geographic locations to manage demand and supply, transportation, inventory, and distribution. Blockchain technology has created an interesting research gap in the SCM domain, and this study is designed to describe the relevancy of blockchain technology for O&G SCM. SCM is based on agile and lean supply chains (SCs). Agile SC focuses on increasing flexibility and responsiveness to gain competitive advantages, and lean SC is based on eliminating waste and processes to improve firm performance. This study is an initial effort to propose a framework that suggests the implication of blockchain for O&G by providing an overview of O&G SCM. Data were collected from SC managers of O&G companies, and we analyzed the impact of agile and lean SCs on firm performance. The results indicate that agile SC is highly important for O&G industries in comparison to lean SC. This study proposes the key requirements of agile SC and how blockchain can uplift agile SC technology with state-of-the-art properties such as data-driven management, information sharing, data privacy, cyber-security, transparency, smart contracts, visibility, traceability, and reliability, which boost SC agility as well as firm performance.

Green entrepreneurship has been increasing with growing attention to environment protection by a variety of stakeholders. Green innovation, as the essence of green entrepreneurship, has attracted a broad range of scholarly attention with yet inconclusive findings regarding its effect on firm performance. According to our analyses of 1667 firms listed on SME board and GEM in China during the period from 2010 to 2019, we find interesting results regarding the type of green innovation involved and the moderating effect of firm age on the link between green innovation and SME performance. More precisely, we find green utility-model innovation positively influences firm performance for SMEs, whereas green invention innovation does not contribute to firm performance overall. More interesting, our empirical results suggest that older firms benefit more from both green invention innovation and green utility-model innovation than younger firms. This research contributes to the literature on green entrepreneurship as well as green innovation.

Indonesia consists of 17,000 islands, and this geographical condition presents unique supply chain challenges. Limited research has been conducted to study the impact of inter-island logistics on agile and supply chain performance. Therefore, this research is a pioneering study that analyzes the correlation between these variables. In addition, this research investigates the relationship of ambidextrous, agile, and lean supply chains to supply chain performance while examining the moderating effect of inter-island logistics. A theoretical design was developed to study the above relationship. As an initial analysis, hypotheses were tested with data from 34 manufacturing firms in Indonesia, using SmartPLS with 500 bootstrap samples. This research contributes to the supply chain management literature in three ways. First, it found that an agile supply chain mediates ambidextrous and lean supply chains to improve supply chain performance. Second, inter-island logistics, however, negatively moderates the relationship between an agile supply chain and supply chain performance. Finally, it strengthens the conceptual definition of the relationship between ambidextrous, lean, agile supply chains and supply chain performance.
