With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), many tasks in the art field are transformed. A critical question emerges: how do artists perceive this change? This study investigates the perceptions of digital artists in the entertainment industry towards AI-generated art. Through 22 in-depth interviews, we find that artists considered AI art unethical. In addition, artists questioned the agency and the lack of human expression behind AI art. Furthermore, the creative process is a point of contention. Unlike traditional art forms, AI art offered them little control or room for experimentation. Artists could not iterate or make incremental changes. Regarding the final AI art output, although the digital artists were impressed with its aesthetics, they found AI art soulless. The study has important implications for emerging research on AI art.

  • Feb 20, 2024
  • JOURNAL OF ARTS
  • Kerem Düzenli + 1 more

Digital technologies have increased our ability to process images. Artists in the past had fewer tools at their disposal to create their artworks. There is a revolution in art today thanks to development of computer technologies. Activities of artists using new technological tools that emerge with digitalization can be defined as digital art. All branches of art where art and technology combine are within the scope of digital art. The main difference between traditional art and digital art is the medium where the artwork is created. In traditional art, a musician uses a musical instrument to display his work, or a painter produces his work with canvas and brush. In digital art, this occurs using technological devices. Many applications, from digital graphic arrangements to video installations, from virtual realities to artificial intelligence applications, fall within the scope of digital art. This article's goals are to investigate how technology has affected art throughout history and to look at how digital art is created and sold. In this article, the impact of artificial intelligence on today's art and artists will be examined. NFTs, another controversial artwork of today, will be focused on and information will be given about the variants of these new technologies in today's art. Literature review and compilation were chosen as the method. According to the findings, artists who closely follow technological developments are the pioneers of the digitalization and dissemination of art. With the evolution of artificial intelligence from its first applications to the present day, artificial intelligence has now turned into a productive tool that can produce works that have never existed before, beyond being just an algorithm. In addition, it has been observed that, thanks to NFTs, digital art can escape the authority of art institutions, create its own autonomous space in a decentralized environment, and present itself as a digital asset open to everyone.

  • Feb 16, 2022
  • Revista Música Hodie
  • Huihui Chen + 1 more

The active use of new digital technologies in the art of music is becoming the basis of a new aesthetic perception. The possibilities of digital technology to transform the voices of performers make it relevant to consider the role of vocal aesthetics in digital music art. This study aims to investigate the features of vocal aesthetics perception in digital art. The perception of musical works as pleasant or unpleasant correlates with the psycho-emotional state of the listener; thus, to study the psycho-emotional impact of synthesized vocal without instrumental accompaniment, the authors used Kunin projective physiognomic test (1977), the WAM (Well-being, Activity, Mood) technique (1973), and the Wessman-Ricks self-assessment of mental state technique (2004). The study involved 182 students and teachers of Music College, Ningbo University, China. The study of the psycho-emotional state of respondents before and after listening to synthesized vocal compositions allowed the authors to indirectly evaluate the aesthetic perception of digital music art. After listening to the vocal digital fragment, which included both major and minor fragments of different tempo and rhythm, the overall mood in the group of respondents significantly improved: good mood was detected in 26.9% of cases, and very good - in 11.5%. The positive impact of listening to a vocal digital song on the well-being, activity, and mood of the respondents correlates with its positive aesthetic impact. The research confirms that aesthetic properties are directly dependent on the listener's point of view, aesthetic experience is a matter of value and emotion, and aesthetic feeling arises as a result of an unconscious process and is associated with the normalizing effect of digital vocal composition on the psycho-emotional state of the respondents.
