Abstract

AbstractA petrophysical investigation has been carried out in Maobei area, the selected site of continental scientific drill of China. The results indicate the eclogite, one of the main objects targeted by the scientific drilling, is characterized by a density of up to 0.9×103kg/m3 higher than the country rocks, which presupposes the feasibility of gravity survey in this area. The eclogite, except the amphibolized one, shows also a seismic velocity higher than the country rocks, which suggests that seismic exploration should be a feasible method to detect the eclogite. Nevertheless, the eclogite shows no difference in magnetism from the country rocks. The rutilized eclogite, on the other hand, shows a significant different magnetism. Thus, the effectiveness of magnetic survey would be limited by such a complex situation in this area.
