Abstract

This paper describes a study carried out on behalf of Deutsche Bundesbahn (West German Railways) by British Rail in collaboration with the Institute of Consumer Ergonomics. The aim was to evaluate subjective responses to predicted pressure fluctuations that are likely to occur in vehicles that will run on a new railway line under construction. The study showed that most subjects found the pressure fluctuations acceptable but there was a significant proportion of subjects who found the most severe pressure fluctuations uncomfortable.
