Gallium-68 labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor ([68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04) can be visualized just 15 min post-injection. However, the appearance of imaging at 15 and 60 min remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between quantitative values in [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET, specifically at 15 and 60 minutes post-injection, in patients with various tumor. We enrolled 30 patients with cancer who underwent [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT scan between January 2021 and February 2025 at our institute. Image acquisition was performed using a PET/CT scanner at 15 min and 60 min after [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 injection. The maximum, mean and peak standardized uptake value (SUVmax, SUVmean and SUVpeak), tumor-to-liver ratio (TLR), and uptake tumor volume (UTV) were measured in the region of interest of the target lesion, liver SUVmean (SUVliver) was also measured. Correlation coefficients of the between-image variables were evaluated by Spearman's rank correlation test. Agreement between the variables was evaluated by Bland-Altman plots with 95% limits of agreement. The SUVmax, SUVmean, SUVpeak and UTV in tumors of all examinations were decreased from 15 min to 60 min. The SUVmax, SUVmean, SUVpeak, TLR, and UTV at 15 min and 60 min were highly correlated (rs = 0.945, 0.949, 0.959, 0.943, and 0.958; P < 0.001). The 95% limits of agreement ranged from -27.8 to 29.1 with a mean of 0.7 and -24.1 to 29.5 with a mean of 2.7 for SUVmax and SUVmean, respectively. Other PET metrics demonstrated that all limits are above ± 30% between 15 min and 60 min. We observed a high correlation between the quantitative values at 15 min and 60 min. Meanwhile, 15 min and 60 min [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET SUVmax and SUVmean have clinically acceptable reproducibility, and 15 min scan is feasible for all patients, but SUVpeak, TLR and UTV should not be used interchangeably.

 • Yanxiong Shao + 7 more

The study aimed to establish an effective back-Propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) model for automatic prediction of 3-month treatment outcome of IgG4-DS. A total of 26 IgG4-DS patients at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital from January 2018 to December 2019 were involved in the study. They were all followed for >3months. The primary outcome was reduction of serum IgG4 (sIgG4) after 3-month treatment. The association between risk factors and reduction of sIgG4 was analyzed by Spearman's rank correlation test. According to the R values, we built a BP-ANN model by MATLAB R2019b. The average reduction of sIgG4 was 5.55±5.03. After Spearman's rank correlation test, ESR, sIgG4, and sIgG were independently associated with reduction of sIgG4 (p<.05) and were selected as input variables. Take into account these parameters, BP-ANN model was developed and the coefficient of determination (R2 ) model was 0.95512. The BP-ANN model based on ESR, sIgG4, and sIgG could predict the 3-month reduction of sIgG4 for IgG4-DS patients. It showed potential clinical application value.

Increased telomerase activity and hTERT expression in human salivary gland carcinomas
 • Jul 5, 2011
 • Oncology Letters
 • Hideo Shigeishi

Approximately 85% of human malignant tumors express increased levels of telomerase. The marked association of telomerase activity with malignant tissue provides strong evidence that telomerase activity is a significant marker for the diagnosis of cancer. In this study, telomerase activity was examined in 12 benign salivary gland tumors (8pleomorphic adenomas and 4 adenolymphomas), 24malignant tumors (15mucoepidermoid carcinomas, 6adenoid cystic carcinomas and 3 acinic cell carcinomas) and 6 non-neoplastic salivary glands. The mRNA expression of the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) and additional telomerase‑associated proteins (hTEP1, p23, Hsp90 and dyskerin) was also examined. Of the 24malignant tumors, 15 revealed strong telomerase activity. The non-neoplastic salivary glands appeared to have a negative telomerase expression. Furthermore, telomerase activity was significantly higher in high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinomas compared to low‑grade ones (Student's t-test, p<0.05). A significant correlation was found between telomerase activity and mRNA expression of hTERT in 15cases, including non-neoplastic salivary glands and tumors (Spearman's rank correlation test, p<0.05). Furthermore, a significant correlation was found between telomerase activity and mRNA expression of EGFR (Spearman's rank correlation test, p<0.001). The results suggest that not only hTERT, but also EGFR play a significant role in the activation of telomerase. In conclusion, the results suggest that telomerase activity and hTERT/EGFR mRNA expression are useful markers for the detection of malignant cells in salivary gland carcinomas. Moreover, our results indicated that telomerase activity determines the degree of malignancy of mucoepidermoid carcinoma.

In order to understand mechanisms underlying the formation of niche and interspecific associations of main species in the shrub layer of Cyclobalanopsis glauca communities, a total of 100 shrub plots were established and investigated in the Cyclobalanopsis glauca communities in karst hills of Guilin. We selected 20 shrub layer species on the basis of their importance values. The niche characteristics of main species in shrub layers were quantified with the indices of Levins niche breadth, Shannon niche breadth, Schoener niche similarity and Pianka niche overlap. The interspecific association was researched by using a set of methods, namely, variance ratio(VR), χ2 test, Pearson's correlation test and Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that:(1)the Levins and Shannon niche breadth index indicated that the niche breadth of Cyclobalanopsis glauca was the largest among the twenty species that we have studied. It indicated that Cyclobalanopsis glauca had a stronger ability to compete and utilize resources in the shrub layer, with the absolute competitive advantage and stronger ecological adaptability. The species with larger importance values generally had larger niche breadth, but the rank orders of them were not exactly the same. (2)the mean value of niche similarity of main species in the shrub layer was 0.156. There was a lower degree of niche similarity among species within the community, indicating that they had a lower similarity in resource utilization. (3)the result of niche similarity proportion and niche overlap was similar but not the same. The differences between them suggest that using similar resources are not sufficient to cause competition among these species. (4)the W test showed that the overall interspecific associations were significantly positive associations among the main species in the shrub layer. This reflected that the Cyclobalanopsis glauca community in karst hills of Guilin was in a relatively stable succession status. (5)the results of the χ2 test, Pearson's correlation test, and Spearman's rank correlation test showed that the significance ratios of the species pairs were all lower. The species pairs with insignificant interspecies correlations accounted for the majority of the species pairs in the shrub layer, reflecting a weak association among the various species pairs in the shrub layer. Most of the species showed an independent distribution pattern. (6)both Pearson's correlation coefficient and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient showed significantly positive correlations with niche similarity and niche overlap value. In other words, the species pairs with stronger positive association generally had larger niche similarity and niche overlap. On the contrary, the species pairs with stronger negative association generally had smaller niche similarity and niche overlap. 参考文献 相似文献 引证文献

To evaluate the relationship between semiquantitative and volumetric parameters on 18F-FDG PET/computed tomography (CT), including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG), tumor to liver ratio (TLR) and tumor to mediastinum ratio (TMR) with the level of Ki-67 expression in breast cancer. We retrospectively reviewed 105 female patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer who underwent baseline 18F-FDG PET/CT and had immunohistochemical staining to determine the level of Ki-67 expression. The following PET parameters were measured (SUVmax, SUVmean, MTV, TLG, TLR and TMR) and correlated with level of Ki-67 expression. Significant moderate positive correlations were found between the PET parameters (primary SUVmax, SUVmean, TLG, TLR and TMR) and level of Ki-67 expression. The primary SUVmax had the highest correlation coefficient (r = 0.461) followed by TMR (r = 0.455) and P value of <0.001 for both. In ROC analysis, primary SUVmax had the largest area under the curve (0.806, P = 0.0001), with sensitivity of 76.5 % and specificity of 75% for prediction of high Ki-67 level. In univariate analysis, all PET parameters, patient age, tumor grade, molecular subtype, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor status were significantly associated with Ki-67 level. In multivariate regression analysis, only tumor grade [odds ratio (OR) = 20.460, 95% confidence interval (CI): 11.360-29.559, P = <0.0001], molecular subtype (OR = -21.894, 95% CI: -37.921 to -5.866, P = 0.008), SUVmax (OR = 2.299, 95% CI: 0.703-3.895, P = 0.005) and TLR (OR = -4.908, 95% CI: -9.476 to -0.340, P = 0.035) were found to be the strongest independent predictor factors for the level of Ki-67 expression and hence proliferative activity of malignant cells in breast cancer. The semiquantitative parameters and volumetric 18F-FDG PET/CT parameter, that is, TLG correlated well with proliferation marker Ki-67 in breast cancer. 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging can be used as a useful noninvasive diagnostic tool in imaging cellular proliferation and hence may substitute for in vitro testing of molecular markers in the diagnoses and staging of breast cancer.

 • Guobing Liu + 8 more

The value of ultra-low-activity 2-[18F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in patients with hepatic malignancies remains unclear. A cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2019 to May 2021 in Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. A total of 49 patients with hepatic malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (n=13) or intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) (n=36), underwent 60-min dynamic PET imaging, with 15 undergoing full-activity 18F-FDG and 34 undergoing ultra-low-activity 18F-FDG. The kinetic metrics (K1-k3, and Ki) of tumors were calculated and compared between the activity groups. Another 54 patients (27 each group) with hepatic malignancies, including HCC (n=9), ICC (n=34), and metastases (n=11), underwent static imaging. Image qualities were compared between the groups in terms of 5-point Likert scores (with a score ≥3 fulfilling the clinical requirement), the mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean), the standard deviation of standardized uptake value (SUVSD), and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the liver; the SUVmean of blood pool and muscle; and the tumor-to-liver ratio (TLR), tumor-to-blood ratio (TBR), and tumor-to-muscle ratio (TMR) of lesions. Intergroup comparisons were performed using Chi-squared test for categorical variables and the Student's t-test or the Mann-Whitney test for continuous variables depending on the normality of variables. There was a nonsignificant difference in the kinetic metrics (K1-k3 and Ki) of tumors between the activity groups. In static imaging, 1-min full-activity (F1) and 8-min ultra-low-activity (L8) images obtained image-quality scores >3 and were thus selected for intergroup comparisons. Nonsignificant differences in SUVmean of liver, blood pool, and muscle were identified between F1 and L8 images (P=0.641, P=0.542, and P=0.073, respectively) although the liver SNR was slightly higher in F1 (13.10 vs. 11.31; P=0.003). Lesion detectability was 98.5% and 100% for F1 and L8 images, respectively, but there were no significant differences in TLR, TBR, or TMR between the groups. The results of this single-center study indicate that the performance of ultra-low-activity PET imaging is comparable to that of full-activity imaging in patients with hepatic malignancies.

Functional testicular evaluation using PET/CT with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose
 • Sep 10, 2011
 • European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging
 • Lawrence Oliver Dierickx + 10 more

PET/CT using (18)F-FDG is a well-established diagnostic examination in oncology, cardiology and neurology. The clinical significance of nontumoral testicular uptake of FDG is unknown. Functional testicular imaging may have important clinical applications in the diagnosis and prognosis of male infertility. The aim of this study was to determine the andrological value of a FDG PET/CT in analysing testicular function, by correlating the PET/CT data with the sperm parameters. Retrospective analysis of FDG PET/CT in 20 consecutive cancer patients without testicular pathology in whom two semen samples had been obtained for analysis before any chemotherapy. FDG PET/CT parameters were the mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean), used for measuring the intensity of uptake, and the functional testicular volume (FV). For statistical analysis, a Spearman's rank correlation test and a Mann-Whitney test were used. Of 20 patients (mean age 22 years), 18 had provided two sperm samples for cryopreservation. Sperm concentration was above 20 × 10(6)/ml in 55% of the patients. The intensity of uptake and the FV were correlated with the total sperm count, the sperm concentration and motility (p < 0.05). The difference in SUVmean between the two testes showed an inverse correlation with sperm concentration (p = 0.036). Normospermic and oligospermic men had significant differences in: (1) mean SUVmean, (2) mean FV, and (3) the difference in intensity of uptake between the testes (p < 0.05). This is the first report on the andrological value of FDG PET/CT in analysing nontumoral testicular function. This pilot study showed a significant correlation between intensity of uptake of FDG and testicular FV with the main sperm parameters. PET/CT with FDG could become a useful new tool in assisted reproductive technologies and other andrological or urological applications.

 • Małgorzata Karolina Mimier-Janczak + 4 more

The aim was to detect subclinical structural retinal abnormalities in optical coherence tomography (OCT) in ophthalmologically asymptomatic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients without signs of lupus retinopathy or drug toxicity in fundus examination and in OCT and to assess the relationship between OCT parameters and disease activity, therapy type and burden on other organs to demonstrate the utility of OCT in early retinal impairment in SLE patients. Cross-sectional study. Thirty-three SLE patients (57 eyes) and 31 healthy individuals (56 eyes) were enrolled in the study. We excluded patients with evidence of lupus retinopathy or hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) toxicity on OCT or fundus examination to reveal any subclinical changes. All patients underwent full ophthalmologic examination in the slit lamp including best corrected visual acuity, tonometry, and OCT. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov distribution test was used to assess the normal distribution in quantitative values. The differences between the individual measured parameters in the groups were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Spearman's rank correlation test was used to assess the correlation between the measured parameters and quantitative clinical data. There was no difference in the OCT findings between SLE and healthy control groups. Among the study group a negative correlation was found between disease duration and age and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in the inferior quadrant (p = 0.0063, p = 0.0036). No correlations were observed between examined retinal parameters and duration of hydroxychloroquine therapy, hydroxychloroquine as well as chloroquine cumulative dose and disease activity indices. Optical coherence tomography is a widespread ophthalmic modality used for SLE retinopathy and HCQ toxicity screening. Our study did not demonstrate its clinical potency in diagnosis of subclinical retinal involvement. An optical coherence tomography device seems to be less sensitive in subclinical retinal impairment detection than optical coherence tomography angiography.

Purpose To determine the variance and correlation with tumor viability of fluorine 18 (18F) fluoromisonidazole (FMISO) uptake in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prior to and after embolization treatment. Materials and Methods In this single-arm, single-center, prospective pilot study between September 2016 and March 2017, participants with at least one tumor measuring 1.5 cm or larger with imaging or histologic findings diagnostic for HCC were enrolled (five men; mean age, 68 years; age range, 61-76 years). Participants underwent 18F-FMISO PET/CT before and after bland embolization of HCC. A tumor-to-liver ratio (TLR) was calculated by using standardized uptake values of tumor and liver. The difference in mean TLR before and after treatment was compared by using a Wilcoxon rank sum test, and correlation between TLR and tumor viability was assessed by using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Results Four participants with five tumors were included in the final analysis. The median tumor diameter was 3.2 cm (IQR, 3.0-3.9 cm). The median TLR before treatment was 0.97 (IQR, 0.88-0.98), with a variance of 0.02, and the median TLR after treatment was 0.85 (IQR, 0.79-1), with a variance of 0.01; both findings indicate a narrow range of 18F-FMISO uptake in HCC. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was 0.87, indicating a high correlation between change in TLR and nonviable tumor. Conclusion Although there was a correlation between change in TLR and response to treatment, the low signal-to-noise ratio of 18F-FMISO in the liver limited its use in HCC. • Jeffrey Boon Hui Yap + 1 more

PurposeThis study aims to investigate Feng Shui elements that can influence housing selection and property pricing in the Malaysian housing market.Design/methodology/approachA structured questionnaire encompassing 26 Feng Shui elements, which were shortlisted based on relevant previous studies, was distributed to prospective homebuyers in the Klang Valley region. The elements were inferred and ranked according to frequency, significance and importance scores. Kruskal–Wallis ANOVA tests were used to assess the ratings provided by the different respondent groups, while Spearman's rank correlation tests were utilised to measure the degree of agreement or disagreement among each pair of the ethnic group.FindingsThe results obtained indicate the following as the five most influential elements: orientation, main entrance, street location, house number and living room. Despite a multiethnic and multicultural society in Malaysia, Spearman's rank correlation tests showed that there are no differences in the prioritisation of Feng Shui elements between three distinct ethnic groups (Malay, Chinese and Indian). Abstract: The high usage of social media in the digital era has become a concern, particularly due to its various negative impacts on behavior, mental conditions, and attention span. University students aged 18-25 years represent one of the largest groups of social media users. Several studies have shown a significant relationship between social media addiction and decreased attention span. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between social media addiction and attention span among medical students in North Sulawesi. This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design involving 180 fifth-semester medical students at Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's rank correlation test. The instruments used in this study were the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) to measure social media addiction levels and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) to measure attention span. The Spearman's rank correlation test showed a p-value of <0.001 with a correlation coefficient of -0.346. The majority of students were found to have moderate levels of social media addiction (69.4%) and moderate attention span (53.9%). In conclusion, there is a significant negative correlation between social media addiction and the attention span of students in North Sulawesi. It is recommended that students use social media more wisely and limit their daily usage duration.
