The relationship between grade nine math national exam results, prior skills, and an interest in math
Summary

This paper aims to compare the results of international and national exams within educational policy context. As international exams, PISA tests and TIMSS exams were seletected to compare a national exam in Turkey. To the Turkish example of exams, Higher Education Institutions (YKS) was included in the comparison. Observing the age cohorts of exam participants, around 14 years old in PISA and TIMSS and roughly 18 years old in YKS, PISA and TIMSS score were compared with the scores of YKS exam in four years later. This comparison shows a highly divergent picture between international and national exam cases for Turkish participants. In general, while the students’ scores show an increase in international exams, their scores decreased in a national (YKS) exam. This result clearly shows the incompatibility between the structure of international and national exams. While PISA and TIMSS are mostly named “well-constructed tools” to measure higher level cognitive skills of students, one can say that YKS has a relatively classical structure. This sort of classical evaluation may indirectly influence the composition of whole education policy structure in Turkey, from in-class activeness of students to their main focus to learn (or memorise) basic knowledge, rather than generating their own knowledge. In this regard, it can be a good action to revise the entire education system starting from educational philosophy, educational goals/aims, student activities, and assessment tools to support students self-learning performance. It will be also important to design teacher education system to train next generation teachers who embrace “constructivist learning” approach.

Teacher attitude is a pertinent determinant that involves sincere sensitivity to the desire of students and the overall willingness to participate in classroom responsibility. This study delved into the effect of teacher attitudes on pupils' academic performance (AP) in public primary schools in Hargeisa, Somaliland, with the main purpose of enhancing quality of education in Somaliland. The study was fueled by the fact that Somaliland's educational standards had declined, which had been linked to teachers' attitudes. The rising number of Somaliland National Exams (SLNECB) exam failures reflected the decline in academic performance. Despite an increase in failure, as shown by Somaliland's national exam results, the effect of teacher attitudes on student performance had not examined. Employed cross-sectional research design, data was obtained using a questionnaire from a stratified random sample technique of teachers in Hargeisa public primary schools, and document analysis and was analyzed using ANOVA One Way. The study found out that teacher attitudes significantly affect on students' academic performance in Hargeisa district public primary schools. Many factors impact the performance of graduating residents on certification exams. It is thought that most factors are related to the individual candidate's ability, motivation, and work ethic. Less understood, however, is whether a training program has any impact on the preparation and performance of its graduates on certification exams. We present 20 years of results of a national preparatory exam that all graduating residents complete about three months before the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) qualifying urology exam. This exam, known colloquially as QUEST, aims to simulate the RCPSC exam with written and oral components. We aimed to analyze the impact of a training program on the performance of its residents. A retrospective review of exam results from 1997-2016 was conducted. During that time, 495 candidates from all 12 Canadian urology training programs undertook the exam. The performance of graduating residents from each individual program was grouped together for any given year. The different programs were anonymized, as the aim of this study is to assess the impact of a training program and not to rate the different programs. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA was conducted. All training programs fall within one standard deviation of the mean for the written component, the oral component, and the overall score. The residents of four training programs had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the written component. The residents of three out of these four training programs also had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the oral component and the overall results of the exam. Most Canadian training programs prepare their residents adequately for this simulated certification exam in urology. However, there are some training programs that consistently prepare graduating residents to outperform their peers.

This Literature Study Research Entitled Utilization of the Absorption Result Score of the Indonesian National Examination SMALB-B (hearing impairment) For Mapping the Quality of Education Programs and/or Education Units especially This study answers three problems, namely whether the results of the absorption of the research can be used to map the quality of education programs and/or education units? How can the results of the absorption of the Indonesian National Examination SMALB-B be used as a mapping of the quality of education and/ education units? And how can national exam questions better use audio visual media, factual material, and use sign language, because they see the characteristics of children who are deaf who are very visual?. The data of this study were obtained from several data from Puspendik, journals, and books relating to National examination absorption and the use of quality programs in education units. This study uses analysis using descriptive techniques. The results of this study are the first to show that out of a total of five coverage of private Indonesian language material, the average is 7.39, and 5.96 public schools. Thus the score of the Indonesian National Examination between public SLB and private SLB in Jakarta is much higher than public schools. Both of the results of the national exams can be used to improve learning in schools, when schools utilize the results of the national exams by looking at several descriptions of examples of coverage questions. Both schools can make use of sample descriptions of material coverage questions for learning. Third, the National Exams for deaf children should be better off using audio visual, using factual texts, and some questions using Sign Language.

The National Examination is a mechanism adopted by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to evaluate the performance of the learning process at every level of education. This study sees the decline in national exam scores for junior high school students that occurred during 2016 to 2018 as a problem that needs to be resolved. The k-Nearest Neighbor method which is applied to the report card scores is used to predict the achievement of student performance in the national exam from the four subjects tested. The dataset containing 307 instances resulted from the acquisition of primary data from a state Junior High School in Malang, Indonesia. Two scenarios, one of which involved SMOTE resampling, were used in the performance comparison study. The results showed that the best performance was generated by a scenario involving k-Nearest Neighbor as the classifier, combined with SMOTE preprocessing. The best performance of national exam predictions can be seen in English, with an accuracy of 81.16%.

This paper analyzes Kenya’s strategy of publicly announcing the National Exam results with all the subject’s personal identifiers in place. As much as Kenya purports to be aware of, and to uphold the rights of individuals, this analysis reveals that the Ministry of Education is the prime violator of data ethics in Kenya. The paper suggests ways to uphold the Basic Rights of Kenyans and on the need to adhere to the Data Protections Act of 2019 as a basic requirement in handling student data both in school and at the institutional level.

This study analyzes the comparison of English education systems in Indonesia and South Korea through a quantitative approach, focusing on three main aspects: curriculum, teaching methods, and learning outcomes. Data was collected through analysis of curriculum documents, international test scores (PISA, TOEFL iBT, EF EPI), national exam results (UN Indonesia and CSAT Korea), and structured questionnaires involving 800 students and 200 teachers from both countries. The results showed a significant difference in the integration of curriculum technology (χ² = 24.7; p < 0.001), where South Korea allocated 85% of curriculum content to digital platforms, while Indonesia only 35%. Teaching methods in Indonesia are still dominated by the grammar-translation approach (68% of teachers), while South Korea adopts task-based learning (89% of teachers) which is positively correlated with student motivation (r = 0.62; p < 0.01). South Korean students' learning outcomes are consistently superior, with an average EF EPI score of 611 compared to 492 in Indonesia (t = 8.34; p < 0.001), especially in speaking skills (∆ = 15.3 points). Regression analysis revealed that 45% of the variance in learning outcomes in South Korea was influenced by technology (β = 0.52; p < 0.001), while in Indonesia, teacher quality was the main predictor (β = 0.38; p < 0.05). These findings confirm that disparities in learning outcomes are not only due to curriculum differences, but also structural factors such as infrastructure gaps, teacher capacity, and access to technology. The research recommends increasing digital-based teacher training and equitable distribution of infrastructure in Indonesia, as well as reforming the hagwon system in South Korea to reduce social inequality. The implications of this study are evidence-based policy contributions for the development of inclusive and adaptive language education in the digital era.

This Research-to-Practice Full Paper presents the correlation analysis of subjects in the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which is a nationally standardized test developed by NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying). It is generally the first step in the process of becoming a professional licensed engineer (P.E.) and hence serves as a valuable assessment tool for evaluating students' learning objectives and outcomes. Based on CPP (Cal Poly Pomona) and National FE exam data from 2005-2011, this study intended to explore the relationship between different subjects from morning and afternoon sessions. Additionally, the comparison was also performed between the observations from CPP and National results to highlight the discrepancies which can shed more insight to teachers for their design of curriculum and pedagogy strategies aiming to enhance students' outcomes. The results illustrated the presence of statistically significant correlation among many subject pairs across morning and afternoon sessions. Moreover, some of the pairs demonstrated comparable relationship between CPP and National exam results, but the correlation analyses successfully highlighted the discrepancies which would allow the faculty to develop focused strategies for improvement of weaker subjects.
