Abstract

Abstract After a prolonged legislative process, a new piece of legislation was finally introduced into the intellectual property legal paradigm of Sri Lanka. The Intellectual Property (Amendment) Act, No. 8 of 2022, represents a significant milestone in the legal history of Sri Lanka as it establishes a national registration system for geographical indications (GIs) reinforcing the protection of GIs at both the domestic and international level.
