Abstract

The patterns of partial identity in various quantitative immunoelectrophoretic methods are demonstrated. These patterns are characteristics and easily recognized when they appear, even in complicated systems. The quantitative immunoelectrophoretic methods are more sensitive than the double diffusion technique; furthermore, they allow a quantitation of the degree of partial identity. It is shown that quantitation of a mixture of two partially identical antigents is only possible, if the composition of the antigen sample is known. Finally the resolution power of the methods is demonstrated on a system with a multitude of partially identical antigens. This application shows the superiority of quantitative immuno-electrophoretic me methods in comparison to classical techniques.
