Abstract
The ratio of out-of-plane to in-plane stresses for elastic-plastic plane strain problems reported in literatures is discussed in this note, and another simple expression is proposed. As general relations for plane strain problems, these formulae may be helpful in the elastic-plastic analyses. The deformation theory of plasticity (or the nonlinear elasticity theory) is widely employed in elasticplastic analyses. However, to obtain analytical solutions even for elastic-plastic plane strain problems is full of difficulties. By σ3 and σ1, σ2 denoting the out-of-plane and in-plane stresses respectively, under plane strain condition, generally there is
