Abstract

A method is described whereby the total dry extract of wines, including sweetened and fortified wines, can be determined from knowledge of their relative densities and alcoholic strengths. The method is designed to be used in conjunction with the rapid refractometric method used in this laboratory for the determination of the alcoholic strength of wine and requires no further measurements, other than that of temperature, to be made.
