Abstract
We propose a new method to investigate the motion of a pulsed rocket in Newtonian mechanics using a mass–momentum diagram. We can draw the state of the rocket motion step-by-step on the diagram without any calculations. We also obtain the equation of the trajectory of the state on the diagram and deduce the relation between the final velocity and mass of the rocket, which coincides with the ordinary prescription of the textbooks.
