Abstract

It has been claimed that primary teachers do not embrace drama teaching in their classroom. The reasons for this reluctance may lie in drama in education's history and levels of support offered by schooling systems. This article presents the stories of two committed primary drama educators. They speak about their approach to drama teaching, the realities of teaching drama in schools, their experience of preservice drama training, beginning drama teaching and historical levels of support for teachers in New South Wales. The article concludes with some overarching reflections on the current realities and likely future levels of professional support for primary drama educators in NSW and beyond.
