Abstract

In a recent paper (Sen AK. Computers & Graphics, 1999; 22(6):759–764), the product-delay algorithm was presented as a means of creating graphic designs on a computer. The algorithm was illustrated with sine and square waves. It was shown that a multitude of interesting geometric patterns can be generated with these waveforms. In this paper the product-delay algorithm is used to explore the effects of amplitude and frequency modulation on pattern formation. The strikingly different effects of amplitude and frequency modulation are illustrated with the aid of several examples.
