Abstract

Electrophoresis of the extracts on gels made from different concentrations of acrylamide and analysis of the R, data with the computer program showed that the four new proteins in the Xanthi-nc cultivar were not significantly different from those in the Xanthi cultivar. However, only proteins 1, 3 and 4 in the White Burley cultivar were electrophoretically identical with the proteins (bl, b2 and b3 respectively) in the Xanthi-nc cultivar. Protein 2 in the White Burley cultivar was different from all of the proteins in the Xanthi and Xanthi-nc cultivars. In the Xanthi cultivars the bl , b2 and b3 proteins had similar molecular weights, whereas that of protein b4 was significantly larger. In the White Burley cultivar, however, all four new proteins had similar molecular weights but different charges.
