Abstract

The novel Streulicht [Scattered Light] by Deniz Ohde describes the impact of social, racial and gender injustice on the life of a young woman of color with a working-class background. As the exclusion from society and the exclusion from knowledge go hand in hand, the protagonist is unable to understand or articulate the reasons for the injustices she suffers. Drawing on Miranda Fricker’s theory of epistemic injustice and Sara Ahmed’s work on the politics of emotions I will argue that in this novel epistemic injustice is inseparable from other forms of social, racial and gender injustice.
