Abstract

Abstract As the data of bird trapping is very abundant, we decided to check possibilities of applying these data in monitoring breeding bird abundance. The trapping data was compared with the data of monitoring breeding bird abundance in Lithuania (carried out with the help of point counts method). The data of 1987–1989 and 1993–1994 was compared. We used the data obtained by zigzag traps in the Ventės Ragas Ornithological Station. The results obtained demonstrated that the trapping data of the breeding season corresponds to the abundance trends of monitoring the most numerous passerine species. We showed the correspondence of abundance trends based on trapping data and those set up by point counts for 11 passerine species. It indicates a possibility of applying trapping data in monitoring breeding bird abundance.
