Abstract

A detailed knowledge of the photon energy dependence of a dosimeter is essential for the interpretation of measurements obtained with it in complex photon spectra. This paper describes the measurement of the photon energy dependence of Toshiba FD-P10-7 and SEI radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeters embedded in aluminium sufficiently thick to establish transient electron equilibrium. A combination of heavily filtered bremsstrahlung, radionuclide and positive ion accelerator sources were used to cover the mean photon energy range 17 keV to 6.8 MeV. Particular emphasis is given to the description of the 6.8 MeV calibration field based on the 19F(p, αγ) 16O reaction, which was established for these measurements.
