Abstract
This chapter addresses question of whether, as suggested by Letter of Aristeas , authorities of Jews in Jerusalem were involved in translation project, or not. The Letter of Aristeas (hereafter LA) offers most ancient answer to question about original setting of translation of the Law of LA is only document from Antiquity that tells a story about origins of Greek Pentateuch. The Pentateuch, Law of Jews, was a most important part of literary heritage of Jews. If leaders of Jewish community in Alexandria played any role, two passages in LXX Exodus do not support idea of a rival version. On contrary, they rather indicate that translation of Pentateuch was made on authority of leading priests in Jerusalem, and of high priest in particular.
