The effect of materials which may affect the active electrodissolution of zinc in alkali was examined in a diffusion-dominated system. It was concluded that if these materials have any beneficial effect it is not via the agency of diffusive processes. The most probable explanation of their action is by the mechanical dislodgment of particular films.
