Abstract

AbstractThe history of English Puritanism has changed dramatically over the past forty years, but our understanding of the origins of Puritanism has remained relatively unchanged. This article examines some accounts of the origins of Puritanism, evaluates them in the light of recent historiographical developments, and suggests an alternate approach to the question.
