Abstract

1. 1. Resting oxygen consumption rates of the Florida king snake, Lampropeltis getulus floridana, were measured at 26°C using 11 animals ranging in body weight from 21 to 1217 g. 2. 2. Oxygen consumption is weight dependent in this species, the relationship being described by the equation VO 2 (ml/hr) = 0.333 W 0.65. 3. 3. The exponent of body weight on metabolism for L. y. floridana is significantly lower than that for snakes generally, and different from those for some other snake species.
