Abstract

The third quarter of 1977 has been an eventful one for the critics and opponents of the Society. There has been a resurgence of activity, for example, the formation of a new antimartial law organization, demonstrations (with at least two leading to confrontations with the police) and the holding of a conference for the purpose of formulating alternatives to the martial law r?gime. At another level, the armed struggle waged by the New People's Army (NPA) in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, and the Moro Bangsa Army in Mindanao and Sulu, has of late taken on a new intensity. The death toll of combatants and civilians alike is in the high thousands.
