Abstract
Two axi-symmetric rigid bodies which are undergoing free motion, and which have Coulomb friction coupling, are considered. The motion of the system is determined. It is shown that friction destabilizes the system. When perturbed from a state of steady motion, the system seeks a coupled, rather than an uncoupled, configuration.
