The major distinction, if any, probably lies in the aims of various workers; the evolutionary geneticist studies organisms with a view to understanding the role and mechanisms of evolution, while the systematist is concerned with the evolution and interrelationships of particular animals or plants insofar as this information will enable him to place populations, species, or other taxa more accurately within an overall taxonomic scheme.
