Abstract

The Quit and Win contest was developed by the Minnesota Heart Health Program (MHHP) at the University of Minnesota. ~ The contests were implemented in the three MHHP education communities: Mankato, Fargo-Moorhead, and Bloomington. Mankato is a rural community of approximately 38,000 in southern Minnesota. Fargo-Moorhead is an urban area consisting of two neighboring communities (total population approximately 110,000) on the Minnesota-North Dakota border. Bloomington is a community of approximately 85,000 in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The first contest was held in Mankato in 1982-83. Contests continued through 1988-89 under the auspices of MHHP. Contests were incorporated by Bloomington following the termination of MHHP intervention.’-’
