Abstract

“History never repeats itself, because if it did it would be Sociology” is a remark attributed to one of America's outstanding historians. Nevertheless, study of human actions over a period of time may reveal behavior patterns, knowledge of which assists in anticipating future developments. The following article, analyzing past voting behavior in the United States, finds that military heroes have been uniformly more successful than civilian candidates in garnering votes for the presidential office. It makes no prediction as to the future, but is highly suggestive.
