Abstract

The new incoherent inelastic neutron spectrometer, TOSCA, has been recently used to measure the translational kinetic energy of liquid hydrogen. The experiment has been planned taking advantage of the intrinsic incoherence that is introduced in the scattering process by the rotational transitions. By this technique, we have been able to determine the translational kinetic energy of liquid hydrogen with an error bar smallest by almost one order of magnitude with respect to previous determinations.
