Abstract

Eighty two members of a Southern Baptist Church participated in a study of the effects of preaching (P) and preaching supplemented by dialogue (PD). Five instruments were developed as measures: a knowledge test, a psuedo-behavior test, a subjective evaluative test of the subject as a worshipper, a subjective evaluation of the preacher, and a Semantic Differential test related by subject matter to the sermons. The Semantic Differential was the only instrument which showed consistent, significant (p < .05) effects.
