Abstract

Objective To find the characteristics and clinical application of electroretinogram(ERG)in infant patients.Method Three hundred and fourteen cases (621 eyes)of infant patients (aged 40 day to 72months)were tested with Nenropack MEB-2200K system according to the ERG standard of ISCEV.ResultsThe patients were divided into groups according to the clinical diagnosis.The ERG abnormal rates weredifferent in various diseases.The cone-rod ERG decreases and extinguish were the most,followed by the coneERG and red-cone ERG decrease.In patients with retinopathies, most of ERG were extinguish type, followedby cone-rod or rod-cone decreases.In patients with nystagmus,most of ERG were cone-rod ERG decreasetype, followed by cone ERG decrease and rod-cone ERG decreases.About half of patients with ametropia andamblyopia showed normal ERG.Conclusion Abnormal ERG appeared in most of the infant patients.Thepopularity of visual electrophysiological technique and associated knowledge is still very important for thecorrect diagnosis of infant eye diseases.
