Abstract
The myofibrillar proteins in the flight muscle of the tropical water-bug Lethocerus cordofanus were fractionated to obtain a measure of the myosin content of the muscle fibres. The number of myofilaments present in each muscle fibre was calculated from optical and electron micrographs of transverse sections and related to the number of cross-bridges per myosin filament. The results suggest that there are three myosin molecules of molecular weight 5 × 10 5 present in each cross-bridge.
